New fluid classification under the Pressure Equipment Directive - but hardly any changes in practice
On June 1, 2015, the European Chemicals Directive 67/548/EEC was finally replaced by the European Chemicals Regulation 1272/2008, also known as the CLP Regulation (CLP = Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Chemicals). This also changed the legal basis on which the hazard classification of fluids was previously carried out under the European Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC (PED).
VDMA Position Paper on the use of mechanical seals in compressors subject to ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU
Products with potential ignition sources that are used in potentially explosive areas must meet the ATEX Directive. This position paper by the Fluid Power Association at VDMA applies to the use of mechanical seals in compressors subject to the ATEX Directive and is intended to support compressor manufacturers in the use of mechanical seals.

This working group comprises the manufacturers of mechanical seals, who meet to discuss technical or economic topics.
With the inception of the Fluid Seals working group in 1996 – which, to be more exact, comprises seals for fluid power applications, i.e. hydraulic and pneumatic applications – the desire for a dedicated platform within the scope of the Fluid Power trade association in VDMA was fulfilled.
With the Sealing Sheets Working Group the manufacturers of sealing sheets and gaskets organised a communication platform on their own 2003. Their products are installed in the complete mechanical engineering and plant construction industry.
Rising customer requirements for performance, function, quality and costs are shaping today's market and demanding a huge speed of innovation from companies.
